Took the truck out for a drive today. I regret not driving it much this summer....I burned less than a tank of gas over 4 months.
Toodled around town, then filled it full of ethanol free and gave it a detailing.
Now, its back in storage with no plates.
Cleaned:

How many different shades of red are in that interior? I count three plus the black. Not necessarily a bad thing though. The fact that 2/3 of your cars have two tone red and black interiors is pretty impressive.
That gen of Dodge Ram truck is so underappreciated. Trucks were made to be driven! Though I understand why it has to sit unplated for a few months. Do you actually have to take the plates off when you unregister it?
And because I can, have a duck I shot. . . with my camera.

I guess this year does indeed feel weird. It still felt like yesterday that I just took my summer car out... until I walk out and chilled my ass off running inside for long pants.

I think 3 different reds? The dash plastic, seat (aftermarket) and carpet. Although maybe 4 because I got the door cards dyed once.
We do have to take the plates off. Our plates and our insurance are one and the same. Our plate number is our insurance policy number. You can’t have one without the other

Pretty good! Hope the same for you!

My grandma has one of those, it’s rusted to hell, been shot and it looks like a rolling pile of tetanus and it still won’t die. I want it.

The door cards look like a slightly different shade than the dash. That would make 4 reds.
Huh, so even if it's in a garage you aren't allowed to keep them on. I don't know how it works there but here you have a registration sticker you place on the plate with the month and year it expires.

Well at least she got some time out and got put to bed clean mate.
Did you get your package?

We have stickers too, but again it’s the expiry date of your insurance. Our plates are proof of insurance

I'm just trying to figure this out. So you can't receive a plate unless you are insured but the plate itself being on the car proves what? Wouldn't you just look up the plate number to find that out?

You receive a plate from our insurer (we buy insurance from the government, it’s a utility here)
The plate does what a normal plate does in other areas (unique identifier) but also it confirms we're insured and the plate number is our policy number. The tag on the plate is the expiry date of the policy

Such a nice truck. And I’m not a truck guy. You store it with a full tank?

Full tank (prevents condensation in tank and water in the fuel), ethanol free gas and fuel saver

I am considering parking my jalopy for the winter , to keep the water off it, and also many businesses I patronize salt their parking lots during the cold snaps (remember: not much snow, plenty of black ice ). It's not a nice example like yours by any means, so I'm not sure if I'm being silly doing something like that...

I see. Never stored a car before.

I would, you're its guardian! Also, mine was once a massive pos

It’s kind of strange though because it sort of depends on what you do. When I use to go for 10-12 weeks away I would uninsured my car and put it on storage insurance which would require me to surrender the plates.
However, if you don’t put on storage insurance through ICBC you don’t have to surrender the plate and can let the insurance expire. When you do this the vehicle can’t be on the road. I believe you can get dinged for street parking if the cop cruiser somehow gets a scan shot at the expired plate or some busy body narcs
.
The moto I run out: My collision and comprehensive is through private and year round, but my actual basic ICBC policy required by law to be on the road is 9mo. During the 3mo I bring the bike to the back of the house undercover and out of sight, winterize it, lock it up, and throw a cover on it. After the heart of winter I take the policy in for renewal and they give me a new sticker for my plate and I’m road legal again.
There’s also temp op permit 1-15 days for vehicle moves without plates. Normally it’s done for selling cars and things but if there’s some abnormal warm day in like the end of January, I could get one and ride the bike that day. These permits are expensive compared to actual +3 mo policies.

Okay, that makes a lot of sense. So do you actually have to mail the plates backs in when you uninsure it or what?

I
would
just take it in with me
to the broker if I was changing the policy to storage
. There’s brokers everywhere in the townships around
here, I can store and walk to one closest to me.
